That's why we're on a mission to transform schooling, starting with the Create Freedom Learning Model (CFLM) and Curriculum. WE ARE CREATING LEARNING EXPERIENCES WHERE EDUCATORS & STUDENTS THRIVE

In education, we recognize the vital importance of culturally relevant, critical, race-conscious, relational pedagogy for the success of all students, especially those from marginalized communities. However, implementing these practices effectively remains a challenge. Despite efforts in New Jersey and beyond to address the histories, cultures, and politics of oppressed groups, teachers lack the necessary training, resources, and support to meet these demands meaningfully.

WHY US?

We are an anti-racist education grassroots organization committed to partnering with schools, districts, and organizations nationwide to envision and implement solutions that empower vulnerable student populations. Our collaborative approach, informed by diverse voices and experiences, has led us to develop the Create Freedom Learning Model (CFLM) and Curriculum, designed to transform schooling into a space where all students can thrive.

Who Benefits?

The CFLM will enrich curriculum and instruction by centering interdisciplinary & professional learning community collaboration, enhance student engagement and increase relationship building, and improve administrative practices for supervision and coaching.

This Model aims to support both teachers and students. Educators that are already aligned and committed to doing anti-racist work in their classroom will be provided with resources and professional community so that they will no longer be doing this work in isolation and can avoid burnout.

WHY A SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMY?

The summer learning academy will recruit students between the ages of 10-12 to engage in six weeks of learning and community engagement. During those six weeks, youth will interact with the first unit of the curriculum, titled, “Building a Community of Belonging: Exploring our own Collective and Individual Power”. In this unit, youth focus on themes related to identity, community, and advocacy; reflect on who they are as a learner and community member (both within and beyond the classroom); and begin to think about how they can advocate for others and take action against injustice.

Our aim is to encourage youth to think differently about how their schooling experiences can be useful to them, their development, and their communities–to think about the kind of power they have to make change in their communities and in society generally. We believe that this six week session will support students in beginning to ask critical questions about the world around them, why it is the way it is, and how it can change for the better.

WHY SIXTH-GRADE?

Middle school is often overlooked. During middle school, youth are going through a critical period of rapid growth and development. They are experiencing new and changing patterns of thinking about the world and how it functions, moral development, metacognitive growth, and greater understanding of their relation to the world (abstract thought). Research suggests concrete experiential learning supports youth as they develop academically, and their moral principles.
